In Hoc Signo Vinces/Black Goat Records/2010 Split CD Review

This is a review of "In Hoc Signo Vinces" which was released by Black Goat Records and we will start of the review with Halo Of The Sun from The United Kingdom with their song "Fenriz" an ambient black/doom metal song.

Drums are all slow with no fast playing or blast beats, while the synths bring a very dark ambient sound to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark sound with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars are all slow black/doom metal riffs that are very dark and melodic sounding, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding guitar solos and leads.

Vocals are a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and clean singing, while the lyrics cover Norse Mythology, as for the producttion it has a very dark and heavy sound to it.

In my opinion Halo Of the Sun bring a great song to this split and I hope to hear more of them in the future. RECOMMENDED BAND.

Next up is The Arm And Sword Of The Bastard God from Southern California with their song GutterMotherCreator" a heavy stoner doom/death metal song.

Drums are all slow playing, while the bass playing has a dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars are all sloe stoner doom/death metal riffs with a 70's rock feeling and there are no guitar solos or leads on this song.

Vocals are all deep doom/death metal growls, while the lyrics cover Anti Religion, Negativity and Hate, as for the production it has a very heavy and dark sound to it.

In my opinion while The Arm And Sword Of the Bastard God are not black metal and a little bit out of place in this zine they are still good doom metal that would appeal to fans of this genre and would be at home in my DoomedToDarknessZine. RECOMMENDED BAND>

Next up is Gnaw Their Tongues from The Netherlands that plays a mixture of raw black metal, doom metal, noise and experimental.

Drums are all slow playing with not much in the way of fast playing or blast beats, while the sound effects bring a very dark ambient/noise feeling to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark and heavy sound with some brutal black/doom metal riffing.

Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams with a brief spoken word sample, while the lyrics cover Bondage, Torture and Morbid Esoterica, as for the production it has a very dark, heavy, raw and primitive sound to it.

In my opinion Gnaw Their Tongues are a very great sounding black/funeral doom/noise/experiemtal hybrid and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Paleness". RECOMMENDED BAND.

Closing this split is The Slaughtered Lamb from Southern California that is a side project from one of the members of Welter In Thy Blood that plays a style that mixes depressive black metal with doom metal and noise/experiemtal music.

In my opinion this is a very great split and I would recommend this to all fans of depressive black metal, funeral doom, stoner, doom/death, noise and experiental fans with Gnaw Their Tongues being my favorite band on this compilation. RECOMMENDED BUY.
