0 Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

Our band was born in 2010. We are all from the North part of Italy and we all had previous musical experiences. We founded O with the goal of playing a modern kind of grindcore, influenced by a lot of different extreme genres (black metal, post-core, noiserock, ecc..). Last year we released a split 7” with our “colleagues” Hungry Like Rakovitz. We played a lot of gigs around Italy also with bands like Napalm Death, Unsane, The Secret, Forgotten Tomb… Not so much time ago Grindpromotion released our first full-length, “Il Vuoto Perfetto”.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?

Gloomy and hate fueled.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Lyrics talk about all those aspects of life that spoil the human being. Apathy, sadness, anger and, in general, the shadow elements in human existence. The man who hates all the rest and, mostly, hates himself.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

What we’ve chosen for our band is not just a monicker, but a graphical symbol. In fact “O” refers more to the graphical symbol of the circle than the letter of the alphabet : a sign with a lot of complex and stratified meanings that fascinates us. It can be read as a synonym of eternal comeback, circularity, the beginning and the end.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

As we stated before, we had the pleasure and the luck to play with bands that we really respect like Napalm Death, Big Business, Unsane, The Secret.. On stage we like to have an aggressive approach, a wall of sound which gives power to the song. Playing live is our favourite thing about playing music.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?

For the next year we are planning an European tour. And we would really like to play in your area!

7. The new album came out on Grindpromotion Records, how did you get in contact with this label and how would you describe the support that they have given you so far?

We have been in touch with Grindpromotion for a lot of years, but this is the first work that we realize collaborating with each other. We are totally satisfied with the way they are working and how they are promoting the record. That’s a growing label, which looks after their bands with passion.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of underground music?

This interview is a proof that we’re doing a good job!
Anyway, we surely need more visibility abroad, and we won’t refuse any chance to make our name start spreading beyond our borders.

9. Are there any other projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?

We’ve chosen to focus 100% on the O project, and that’s why we don’t have any side project at all.

10. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

Blacker and angrier, without any doubt. The bands that are influencing us these days are Trap Them, Converge, Nasum and Cursed.

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Our musical influences draw back to Italian 80’s and 90’s grindcore and hardcore (Cripple Bastards. Indigesti, Negazione, Nerorgasmo…). After those we started moving to both Norwegian Black Metal (Burzum, Darkthrone, Mayhem) and American post-metal (Converge, Neurosis, Today is The Day). The music we play is a mix of all those genres, very different from each other, but with a common ground in primordial aggressiveness.

12. Does Occultism play any role in your music?

The lyrics deal with personal themes. However in the record there are some subliminal messages, which surely add an occult touch to “Il Vuoto Perfetto”. Also the role of the tibetan singing bowl at the beginning and at the end of the record concurs to give an esoteric mood to the whole.

13. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

Literature, cinema, design… Art in general.

14. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Thanks for the interview! At the end we leave here our contacts. Spread the voice!
