Aka Funeral Interview

Interview -  AKA FUNERAL – Algol (guitar and vocal) and Hector (Drummer)

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band and your new album?

Aka Funeral is a brazilian black metal band formed in 2014 by Algol (guitar/vocal/lyrics), Infernal Vaz (bass) and Hector (Drums). After one year dedicating only to composition and practice we was decided to record the album “Stormy Tide” with 7 original songs,  finished in february 2016.  Our album is the result of several influences from bands like Dissection, Emperor, Samael, Abigor, Bolzer, Gorgoroth and others.

2.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Through our music we explored the gnosis from the left hand-path . Philosophy and occultism have a direct effect on our compositions. The lyrics refers in part to the theme of the “dionysian in Nietzsche's philosophy” and to issues related to old traditions, which are presented to the antithesis of the casual humanist traditions. The idea of generating chaos, darkness before the light of creation, the divinity of old texts like "Enuma Elish", the tragic dramas "Bacchae",  "Prometheus Unbound" and the recent grimoire “Liber Azerate” appear for us the indicators of the left hand path and luciferian gnosis.

3.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Aka Funeral'?

The name Aka Funeral was proposed by a close friend (Zilbra), the term refers to an ancient black metal band - Funeral Christ - of which I was part in the late 90.

4.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would youdescribe your stage performance?

We played in only four events, all within our state - Minas Gerais . Our best show was in  Belo Horizonte in the event  Destructo Evangelia organized by our drummer, which included the participation of Totvm , Empire of Souls and In nomine beliallis .

05.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

With the support of Sepulchral Silence- Pablo Selnik - we think about saving some money for a possible tour in Europe.

06 - On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

We are a recent band, so the feedback in Brazil is reasonable, but we know that the sound is running around. As for the rest of the world we have good signs from Hungary, Albania, United Kingdom, EUA, Barcelona, Sweden and Russia.

07.Are any of the band members currently involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?

Only our drummer Hector (Ossuário and Godecay)

08.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Definitely my biggest influence comes from guitarists like Ihsahn, Jon Nödtveidt, Ritchie Blackmore, Guthrie Govan , Robert Fripp , Eric Johnson and others. I can not fail to mention the great Hendrix and Stevie.R.Vaughan . Lately I've heard quite the album "Arktis" by Ihsahn, the unsurpassed "Reinkaos" by dissection and Leytmotif Luzifer by Abigor . But I keep hearing bands like Raibown , Deep Purple , Pink Floyd , King Crimson, Premiata Forneria Marcondis, Pentagram etcc.

09 .Does Occultism play any role in your music?

Yes, especially the occult knowledge from a grimoire entitled "Liber Azerate" . I have great interest in Kabbalah Qliphoth and the wrathful form of gnostic left hand- path . For some years i study the theoretical foundation of chaos from a wide reading, involving its manifestation in different cultures. It is from the philosophy and occultism that our images are fixed in words and music.

10.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

“Open yourself for chaos”.
